BMW E34 M5

The BMW E34 M5 was launched in 1988. Like the preceding model, the E28 M5, the vehicle was handbuilt at BMW's Garching factory by teams of Motorsport engineers.

The E34 M5 was originally powered by a 3.6 litre engine developing 311 bhp, with a 0-62 mph time of 6.3 seconds, and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. The car had a five speed manual transmission. However, in 1992 the engine's displacement was increased to 3.8 litres pushing the output up to 335 bhp and a 0-62 mph dash of 5.7 seconds. Again, the top speed was limited to 155 mph.

IN 1992 a left hand drive touring version was introduced. Eight-hundred and ninety-one examples were made.

Fifty examples of the BMW E34 UK Limited Edition were producted in 1996 to commemorate the last UK production vehicles. The Limited Edition offered consumers the choice of two unique colour and trim combinations, a three-spoke sport steering wheel, air conditioning, a power sunroof, power seats, and headlight washers.

Production ended in 1995.
